A NiMH battery, which stands for nickel-metal hydride battery, is a rechargeable battery that is commonly used in various electronic devices. It is an improved version of the older nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries. NiMH batteries have a higher capacity, which means they can store more energy. In addition, they are less sensitive to the memory effect and are more environmentally friendly because they do not contain heavy metals.

NiMH batteries are used in various applications due to their high energy density and environmental friendliness. Some of the common uses of NiMH batteries include:
Elfa has many different batteries in its range that may interest you. For example, Elfa has a wide range of AA NiMH rechargeable batteries and AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries from brands such as Varta, GP and Duracell.
A good option is the Varta Recharge Battery Power 2600mAh AA Blister 4 1.2V. This rechargeable NiMH battery from VARTA is efficient, made of high-quality materials and is an environmentally conscious choice.

We also have NiMH batteries from GP Batteries. A good example is the HP NiMH battery ReCyko+ AAA 850mAh carton. This type of battery is often used in consumer goods and is an environmentally conscious application.

In addition, we have NiMH batteries from Duracell, such as the Duracell RCR Ultra NiMH battery AA 1.2V 2500mAh. This battery is ideal for professional use.

NiMH batteries have a few disadvantages compared to lithium-ion batteries. For example, NiMH batteries should be fully discharged about once every two months to maintain optimal performance, while Li-ion batteries are virtually maintenance-free. In addition, Li-ion batteries have no memory effect, lower self-discharge, and are more compact due to their higher energy density. The lifespan of Li-ion batteries is usually around 500 charge cycles. However, Li-ion batteries are more sensitive to heat.
Which battery fits best always depends on the application. What is crucial in one application may be less important in another. That is why we are happy to help you make the right choice. Elfa provides an overview (see below) of battery properties and compares different battery types based on charging speed, reliability, and self-discharge.
