The new rates from Stichting OPEN (formerly Stibat) will take effect on January 1, 2027. This annual adjustment is relevant for companies working with batteries and battery packs. The changes have been established to comply with evolving regulations and to further optimize battery collection and recycling.
From 2027, lithium batteries will be subdivided into lithium-ion and lithium primary, with separate rates for both categories. NiCd batteries now also have a separate category with their own rates and no longer fall under Alkaline and other batteries.

Stichting OPEN (Organisatie Producentenverantwoordelijkheid E-waste Nederland) is the national producer organisation that carries out the statutory producer responsibility for electrical appliances, lamps, batteries, and (bicycle) batteries on behalf of producers and importers in the Netherlands.
It organises and funds collection and recycling via the Wecycle network, among others, ensuring that these products are collected safely after use and can be reused as raw materials; producers/importers pay a waste management or disposal fee for this. Stibat merged into this organisation on 1 January 2024 and has continued under the name Stichting OPEN.
